List of 5 Best Linux Distros for General Uses
1. Linux Mint:
If you are just jumping on to Linux from Windows, then this might be the most suitable operating system for you. Its Windows-like interface does not need many efforts from you as it looks and works almost like Windows operating system.
Linux Mint is one of the most user-friendly Linux distributions ever. Either you talk about its performance, speed, older PC support etc., it just works out of the box.
Few daily use software like Office Suite, PDF Reader, Image Editor Calculator etc. come pre-installed with the Linux Mint. It has a huge list of free apps for various purposes on its app store.
The latest version of the Linux Mint is Linux Mint 18.3 Sylvia.
Ubuntu is the most popular and most used Linux distribution of all time. If you are migrating to Ubuntu from Windows then you might feel little difficulties in using it but you will be comfortable after few days of uses.
It also comes pre-installed with some really important software and Ubuntu has the largest collection of the apps that you can install just in a click.
The latest version of the Ubuntu is Ubuntu 18.04 LTS, which comes with the long-term support till 2023.
Peppermint is a light weight and lightning fast Linux distro. The best part of this stable and secure OS is that it comes in the dark theme format which some of you find extremely fascinating.
It is famous for its low end hardware support feature. This is the only Linux distro which I have used the most.
The latest version of the Peppermint is Peppermint 8 which is based on Ubuntu 16.04.
4. Linux Lite OS
Linux Lite is one of the lightest version of Linux which can run even on a PC with 768 MB ram and 8 GB storage.
You can spice up your old and slow PC by using this Linux based operating system. This is the Linux distro which I have used most after Peppermint OS 8.
The latest version of the Linux Lite is Linux Lite 4.0 which is based on Ubuntu 18.04.
5. Zorin OS
If you are a Mac OS fan then you are definitely gonna love this operating system. Zorin OS is nothing but designed by keeping Mac in the mind.
It is completely safe, secure and lightning fast like Mac OS. Zorin OS is built on Ubuntu Linux foundation and it does supports a lot of games too.
The latest version of the Zorin OS is Zorin OS 12.3.
I have not used Zorin OS as much as I have used other Linux Distros. But when it comes for low end hardware then I would keep Linux Lite on top followed by Peppermint OS.
If you have a high end hardware and you want to migrate to Linux then I would highly recommend you to go for Linux Mint which is a high performance, Windows like operating system.
